* Event Update * - Due to today's forecast that calls for inclement weather, the Move with the Mayor events scheduled outside at Village Hall for May 14 have been postponed. Officials are actively working to reschedule Kuumba Kids, the bike rodeo, helmet giveaway and alternative options. More information will be shared on this page and on the Village's social media channels as soon as it becomes available.
Community members are invited to hop on their bikes and ride to Village Hall for Oak Park’s second annual Move with the Mayor event. Village President Vicki Scaman will join Village staff in giving away free bicycle helmets during the family-friendly celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tues., May 14 in the parking lot at Village Hall, 123 Madison St.
Bicycle safety is the primary focus of this year’s Move with the Mayor event in Oak Park. In addition to the bike helmet giveaway, attendees will be able to participate in a mini bike safety rodeo facilitated by a certified instructor from the League of American Bicyclists.
The free helmets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Free stickers will also be available so participants can customize and decorate their helmets.
Additionally, attendees will be able to gather information about bicycling in Oak Park, including locations of bike-parking shelters, free bike fix-it stations and bike-safe routes in the Village.
Move with the Mayor is a national initiative that works with leaders across the country to challenge their communities to be more physically active. Mayors encourage their communities to be physically active to lower their chances of heart disease and its risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.
